Use Your IRA For An Income Tax-Free Gift To Joslin
GIVING OPPORTUNITY!
With the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (EESA) of 2008, Congress authorized legislation allowing donors to make charitable gifts from their IRA accounts without incurring income tax from the withdrawal.
Guidelines
- Donor must be 70 ½ or older
- Distribution must be completed by December 31, 2009
- Funds must be transferred from your traditional or Roth IRA account DIRECTLY to Joslin by your plan administrator
- Amount must be in the form of an outright gift to Joslin (life-income gifts such as charitable gift annuites, remainder trusts or other planned gift vehicles do not apply)
- Qualified charitable distributions are capped at $100,000 per year (if your spouse has a separate IRA account, you can each contribute up to $100,000 per tax year)
*You cannot claim a charitable deduction from IRA gifts
**Mandatory withdrawal requirements have been suspended for 2009
